Dos Mujeres Mexican Folk Art

Years ago, before plastic toys and action figures, before Chinese imports, before toys were sold in stores, the tin makers of Celaya in particular made cars, trucks, spinning toys, push toys and candle powered boats out of tin.  Tin Artisan José Luz made just a few of these collectibles for us in three traditional folk art themes - the Virgin of Guadalupe, Dia de Los Muertos, and Valentines day, the corazon.

A treasure of a Mexican Toy, this tin candle powered Corazon boat comes with three candles and candle tray to light and place up under the bow of the boat.  First though you must fill the tubes at the port end of the boat with water, then place the lit candle up under the bow and place it in a body of water.  After a few seconds it will putt putt around in a circle - or straight if you move the rudder to the straight out position. Instruction video to come.  Watch the artist fill the tubes with water, light the candle and send the boat off on a voyage.
